Thrive – teaching local Indonesians 2

We support young Indonesians to address overlooked environmental issues on land and in the ocean.

Our mission is to increase the reach and effectiveness of conservation across Indonesia by empowering an emerging cohort of Indonesian conservationists.

The Problem

Significant conservation gaps remain across Indonesia, despite large-scale conservation initiatives. These areas are often overlooked due to their remote locations, lack of obvious conservation draw, and the severe shortage of conservation capacity and funding.

Each area is home to important habitats and species, and faced with unique threats that are depleting critical natural resources and negatively impacting the livelihoods of local people.

The Opportunity

There is a rapid increase in passionate young Indonesian conservationists and scientists who are eagerly seeking opportunities to make meaningful change in their country. But paid job opportunities in this field are limited and driving many of these skilled individuals to abandon conservation for other careers.

We see a great opportunity to bridge this gap and increase the scale and effectiveness of front-line conservation efforts across the archipelago, by empowering up-and coming Indonesian conservationists to develop and lead local conservation projects and become stewards of their environment.

Our experience shows that when we put these young leaders in touch with projects, they make meaningful changes on the ground and thrive.

Thrive in Numbers

Founded in 2020, Thrive Conservation is a women-led not-for-profit organisation focused on addressing localised environmental issues through dedicated frontline projects, which empower future leaders of conservation.
